Free RPG Games Online (2d, 3d and Text Roleplaying Games)

Free RPG Games Online (2d, 3d and text based Roleplaying Games)

My first exposure to role playing games (rpg’s) was a pen and paper RPG game called “Runequest”.  It was an excellent little game, but times move on and now everyone wants to play PC roleplaying games.  No, not “politically correct” but rather…oh never mind you know what I mean!

Looking around the net there are many free roleplaying games.  Some are great and some are err well, not great.  Hunting out the good stuff is what we do here at Capes and Cowls!  (The missus calls it “lazy” but I call it research!)

I kept my search down to rpg games only as trying to search through literally thousands of free games online was beyond even my ability to waste an afternoon…

2d and 3d Free Online RPG Games

Runescape

rpg game - Runescape

Runescape from Jagex - Medieval RPG Game

Easily the best of the free rpg games out there for a Western audience.

Runescape has endless mini -games and areas to explore. The game certainly doesn’t lack content.  It has hundreds of quests as well as a large map to explore with many hidden areas.

According to Guiness World Records Runescape has the most active players of any free roleplaying game (over ten million at last estimate).

Runescape has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible to achieve with an in browser Java game.  While the roleplaying elements are quite weak in Runescape, it is a great waste of many a rainy afternoon.

A great game, especially as it is available for free.  Paid accounts are also available but are not necessary until you have beeb playing a long time and many players never open a pay account.

Blood Wars

Free vampire rpg game from Poland.  Primarily text based, but has some really nice airbrush art to keep you entertained.  Interact with other players via a clan system and co-operate to complete harder missions. Play one of five races; Beastmasters, Thoughtcatchers, Cultists, Absorbers and Cursed Ones.

Blood Wars - Vampire Themed RPG Game

Impersonate a vampire in post nuclear world and fight for dominance in the only city that survived the apocalypse.

You begin the game as a newly-changed vampire, without support, having only what you managed to find in surrounding ruins.

During the course of the game you’ll do many quests penetrating the ruined world, seeking every patch of the past that will help you defeat your enemies. You will fight against other vampires dwelling in the city to gain resources, experience and respect. You will battle to protect every yard of those few alleys called the square. You will also lay sieges trying to get through to wealthier districts called the zones. However, you won’t be alone during these heroic battles.

Your clanmates will support you on the way to power.

Forum Warz

Another free rpg game but this time centred around internet forums (forumz?).  The idea of forum warz did kind of appeal to me after seeing some of the flaming I have seen on internet forums.

Silly, fun game, 100% free and with a great sense of humour.

The player begins as a bored Internet user, searching on a parodied search engine (a thinly veiled analogue of Google). Soon their search query is interrupted by an instant message from “Shallow Esophagus”, a mysterious non-player character and possible parody of Deep Throat who introduces them to the concept of “pwnage”.

Nerdy fun for the terminally bored. *GROANS*

Awesome stuff. I have got to say though that in terms of games, I’m still old school and adore dungeons and dragons rpg, yep the first one. Which is your favorite?
