Costumes, Capes and AurasEver wondered how heros get those cool looking capes or those flickering glows that surround them, even when their main powers are switched off? Well wonder no longer!
The BasicsCostumesA character in City of Heroes may have up to four costumes. Each costume fills a slot and is selectable by typing /cc 0 through to /cc 3 into the command console. Each costume slot must first be unlocked before it is useable however and each slot is unlocked via a short mission known as a costume mission. You must be level 20+ to be eligible for a costume mission. CapesCapes are acquired by accepting a mission from the Atlas Park City Representative inside the Atlas Town Hall. This mission involes a few straight forward delivery missions and an indoor instance mission versus the Lost (or Rikti if you are higher level). You are required to protect a time capsule from harm. The mission is again quite short and easy to accomplish, but large groups or high difficulty settings are probably best avoided. Capes are added as a costume part at the Icon (tailor) stores. AurasAuras are unlocked by accepting a mission "to gain better control of your powers" from the City Representative in Atlas Town Hall, whom you should be familiar with from your earlier cape mission. You will be sent to talk to Professor Smythe who will give you a number of hunts to complete. The hunts are 15 Freakshow, 15 Rikti and 15 Devouring Earth. Low level freaks (below level 30) are to be found in Talos, Independence Port or Terra Volta. If you require more of a challenge then the Freaks in Brickstown are all level 30+. Rikti (level 30-33) can be found in the Eastern side of Creys Folley. Rikti monkeys in particular are easy to kill and still count. Low level (below level 30) Devouring Earth may be found in Independence Port (Power Island area only), Talos Island, Terra Volta and Croatoa. Again, if you want more of a challenge then higher level (level 31-40) Devouring Earth may be found in Founders Falls (at the map edges), Creys Folley and almost anywhere in Eden. You must be level 30+ to be eligible for an aura mission. Auras are added as a costume part at the Icon (tailor) stores. Extra Costume Number 1The first costume slot is unlocked by accepting a mission to hunt 30 Tsoo from Serge in the Icon store in the North West of Steel Canyon. (Make sure you have a spare mission slot!) You will be ambushed after accepting this mission upon leaving the store. This mission is easily accomplished as there are many Tsoo in the area directly behind the store, or to the North and West of it. The mission is easy because by the time you can accept this mission you will be a minimum of level 20 and the Tsoo that spawn in this area are in the level 15-16 range. Extra Costume Number 2The second extra costume slot is unlocked by accepting a mission from Lauren in the Independence Port Icon (Tailor) shop. The shop is just west of the Kings Row exit. The mission is to defeat 30 crey. You will be ambushed after accepting this mission upon leaving the store. Crey are numerous in both Brickstown and Creys Folley, although they are somewhat easier in Brickstown. For those of you wanting more of a challenge Eden has Crey up to level 39. Minimum level for this mission is level 30. Extra Costume Number 3The third and final costume slot is unlocked by accepting a mission from Carson the Founders Fall Icon (tailor) shop. This time you are asked to defeat 30 Nemesis. You will again be ambushed upon accepting this mission and leaving the store. Low level (below level 40) Nemesis are plentiful in Eden and present to a lesser extent in Creys Folley. Level 40 plus Nemesis can be found in Peregrine Island, Cascade Archipelago and Firebase Zulu. The minimum level for this mission is level 40.
