FFM has looked at this  does this sound like what you having

I've been doing some research on this problem, and have found this most interesting link.

Looks like the problem is partly down to Vista's Timout Detection and Recovery subsystem. The video driver is busy, so Vista times it out. That link has instructions on how to alter the timeout value, or disable the TDR function.

NOTE: MESS WITH THESE VALUES AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Other reasons which have cropped up are insufficient voltages and cheap RAM. You can find some suggestions for RAM voltages etc in the following thread.
