Preview: Assassin’s Creed II

22 Feb
Assassin's Creed II (PC)

Assassin’s Creed 2 is the eagerly awaited sequel to Assassin’s Creed, yet it is not just another boring sequel.  The game is due out late Feb/early March, but is available on pre-order from Amazon now (click the picture link for order information).  Usually Amazon will get a pre-order to you a day or so before the official release date too.

In this version of the game you are Ezio Auditore da Firenze is a young Italian noble.  The game is set in 15th century Italy and gives players the chance to explore Leonardo’s gadgets.

Great fun!

The game features the usual stealth (or not) and intrigue as well some new weapons and gadgets.  You will also have the chance to meet every assassin’s favourite – Machiavelli; as well as Leonardo da Vinci and Lorenzo de’ Medici.

The graphics in the game are truly awesome, although my aging PC might beg for mercy.  Guess it is time for some upgrades!

Highly recomended.

In case you can’t wait for the official release date and want some silent dagger action now(!), take a look at the directors cut edition below.

Happy gaming.

Not a game exactly…

21 Feb

…but fun never the less.

Probably almost everyone has tried breathing helium from a baloon, but this is something different.

Don’t try this one at home kids! (although if you could try this at home then you would probably be living with a chemist for a parent, and so it might be safe)

How to sound like a Cylon for 10 seconds.

Some other fun stuff I found while surfing was these two science kits.  Yes, you can “mix” the two together.  The perfume kit also lets you make “burp slime”.

Fun for errr all ages.

Champions Online

19 Feb

If superheroes are your thing, another game that is worth a look is Champions online (MMORPG).

Champions Online (PC)

Champions online was made by many of the people that originally designed City of Heroes, so in this regard it might be thought of as “City of Heroes 2.”

The game did get a bit of bad press as the pre-release beta version of the game had some real issues.  Unfortunately the designers were quite liberal about who they let in to beta test the game (yes, I was a beta tester too) and some of the people clearly could not tell the difference between a commercial product and a pre-release beta.  The game is much better now it is a true commercial release, although none US players might notice some lag issues.

Good Points

  • Great character editor
  • Moveable/destructable terrain adds realism
  • Totally unique powers possible
  • Vehicles!

Bad Points

  • Still has some bugged missions, although these can be avoided
  • Areas are instanced (Like CoH, unlike Warcraft) so travel can break immersion in the game

Verdict

Well worth a look anyway for what is a very low price (Amazon UK is selling this at £6 – click the picture link for info)

Conflagrant.
